Welcome to Roger’s Tatooart. New Zealand’s longest standing tattoo studio.
Roger Ingerton, born 1939, first started tattooing in 1970 and in 1972 he worked alongside kevin gray at Kevin’s studio located at 144 vivian street.
in 1974 kevin handed his studio down to roger who then moved it from the location at vivian street to where it is now at 198 cuba street in 1977.
This makes rogers tatooart the longest standing working tattoo studio in aotearoa.

in 2009 roger ingerton handed the shop down to his longtime friend and tattooist, tom downs, who worked alongside him and his wife meg since 2002.

tom downs worked alongside multiple different artists throughout the years and worked hard to preserve the shop and it’s history.

in april 2025 Tom passed the shop down to Dre rock.

Dre has been in the tattoo industry since 2006, knew roger and meg personally and has been a long time friend of tom downs for many years.

dre’s mission is to preserve and uphold the values and tattoo history that this shop is RENOWNED worldwide for.
it is also to carry on roger’s legacy so that the new generation of tattooers do not forget who came before.
the preservation of this shop is also a pathway for the new generation of clientele to get a little piece of new zealand tattoo history.
